HONDURAN ROSEWOOD BURL - DALBERGIA STEVENSONII
Dimensions: 5"x1-7/16"x7/16"
Honduran Rosewood Burl is an incredible wood. Naturally dense and stable, this oily rosewood is found in Central America. The rosewood family (Dalbergia) is highly sought after, unfortunately to the point of near decimation of naturally growing rosewood. As such, CITES regulations have mandated cessation of harvesting live rosewood, the only way to source rosewood is recovery.
Recovery of rosewood can be conducted by foraging the jungle, but also diving into rivers where logging operations historically floated logs downstream in order to load logs onto ships at a port. Unfortunately, Honduran Rosewood Burl is incredibly rare and sources are drying up, causing prices to soar.
These Honduran Rosewood Burl scales and blocks are naturally stable, with oils that produce an incredible polish, stability, antimicrobial properties, and a wonderful, yet not overpowering, smell when sanding. These are not stabilized in resin as the oils in the wood would render the resin incurable, and would potentially ruin this beautiful wood.
